COVID-19 AUGUST UPDATE – TRAINING TIMETABLE PHASE 4 (FROM 12TH OCTOBER 2020)

Before we move onto the updates for training, we would just like to thank everyone for the hard work, dedication and commitment that everyone has shown in returning Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club to the pool. We have been in a very fortunate position where our positive relationship with the Northallerton Leisure Centre has allowed us to come back so strong versus some situation we have all heard and seen about on social media.

As a coaching team we remain convinced that swimmers are in a good shape and are improving from the baseline left in March. The evidence from training sets and observations proves that swimmers at the club are generally fitter, faster and more technical than before the lockdown. The swimmers are doing amazing, and every single one of them should be celebrating their successes in training.

Throughout this email we have listened to the membership bodies voice to inform our planning and development over the coming months, whilst ensuring that we can offer stability, continuity and consistency with built in contingency planning. The update follows discussions held at committee and also with the centre management.

The updates mentioned below will take effect from Monday 12th October and run through to 31st December. The club will be reviewing its position for the 2021 year when further updates are available from the governing body, Swim England.

One notice before the main updates

Due to the Hambleton League training not being able to be run due to the COVID-19 regulations, there is an additional skills workshop on this weekend. Please see below further details and booking information. Our new starting blocks/facilities will be in use for a large proportion of the session. These sessions are ideal for all swimmers in Junior Squad and above

Dryside Training

Dryside training has become unfeasible to continue in the manner which we have been providing delivery. Outdoor sessions during the winter months are unsustainable due to the weather, ground conditions and lighting. It is with regret we are having to suspend our dryside provision until 2021.

Having consulted at length with the leisure centre and governing body guidelines, the club are not in a position to offer training indoors at the centre due to space availability and limitations provided by COVID-19 guidance/operational procedures.

The club will be offering a comprehensive dryside programme using a mixture of Zoom and Youtube sessions. These sessions will be primarily focussed at Senior and Development squad, however some sessions may also be appropriate for Junior Squad swimmers. As these sessions are created links will be provided on email, the website and the clubs social media platforms.

We have a vision of 2/3 sessions being available weekly with progress being monitored by swimmers and coaches using the log book function on the clubs membership system https://membership.nasc.co.uk

Thursday Evenings

The Thursday evening sessions at Bedale Leisure Centre will continue. They will be offered to Senior Squad and Development squad swimmers at a reduced rate due to the impact of training arrangements reducing hours.

The Thursday sessions will be offered at £2 per swimmer and is bookable for senior and development squads. All sessions will be available for booking on the clubs membership system https://membership.nasc.co.uk

The coaching team and committee will continue to monitor attendance numbers, we may offer the sessions out to a wider audience on the normal PAYGO rate should there be space.

This arrangement starts W/C 12th October 2020

Wednesday Evenings

Having listened to the membership voice it has been a nightmare trying to get to a 5.15 session for many swimmers and parents. This has also been an issue for the coaching teams.

There is therefore a change to the Wednesday evening session. It will move to 6pm start. This has some knock on impact for all training squads on a Wednesday. Please see the attachment for new training times.

This arrangement starts W/C 12th October 2020

Development Squad – Bookable Sessions

We are in a position where we are able to utilise free space caused by uni students leaving. We would also like to offer opportunities to enable skill and fitness progression ready for moving squads over the coming months. In addition the senior squads hours are affected by some of the changes aforementioned and as a club we wish to ensure that swimmers can access the hours shoul they wish.

  • Friday – senior 1 on bookable slot (FOC) @ NLC
  • Monday- senior 2/3 on bookable slot (FOC) @ NLC
  • Wednesday- senior 1 on bookable slot (FOC) @ NLC
  • Thursday – senior 1,2,3 on bookable slot (£2 per session) @ BLC

These slots will all be reviewed for attendance. There may be scope for further bookings at Bedale on a Thursday evening pending monitoring.

All sessions will be available for booking on the clubs membership system https://membership.nasc.co.uk

Saturday skills workshops

Sessions are still available. We would encourage all to attend given the likelihood of club based competition over the coming months.

Below are a number of sessions available to sign up to. These will be low intensity skills sessions aimed at developing technique and offering additional pool time to members.

The sessions are ideal for every swimmer in Junior Squad and above.

Initially these sessions will be 1.5 hours long and based at Bedale Leisure Centre.

Sessions will utilise the starting block facilities at the centre when Swim England permit the use of the facilities.

Competitions

Swim England are very optimistic in their planning. They have been planning ‘Level X’ competition of which an update will be provided during this month to clubs. The Level X competition allows clubs to host competition which feeds into leader boards.

When (and indeed if) this opportunity is available to use we will be planning on running Level X competition to support the target setting and motivation of swimmers.

The updates mentioned below will take effect from Monday 12th October and run through to 31st December. The club will be reviewing its position for the 2021 year when further updates are available from the governing body, Swim England.
